I am Nicholas Calvanese.

I have been a barber for over 20 years. I was schooled in Philadelphia, PA at Ralph Amade’s school of Hairstyling and Design. Eventually, I was offered a position to barber at Charlies Barbershop under a local barber Charles. Charles was a Italian WW2 Navy veteran with a wealth of knowledge. His shears and comb skills were unrivaled, while his son Michael, was magical in the art of cutting men’s hair. I was able to take in this unmatched knowledge, take my barbers test, and pass. After Philly, I barbered in Florida, Minnesota, and finally ended up in San Francisco, CA with a classic Barbershop: Cable Car Clothiers Haberdashery and Barbershop. Partnering with Cable Car, I was able to learn many aspects of the industry, including working on Film sets, Theater, and Historic Reenactments.

These opportunities in San Francisco led me to meeting my beautiful wife, Moxie, and in turn brought us to Flagstaff, AZ. Eventually, after 9 years of development and thought, we opened “The Classic Barber”.

The Classic Barber is a culmination of my 20 + years of barbering. We wanted a small, intimate shop, where we could develop relationships with our customers and treat them like family, the way Barbering used to be.
